
John Muir completed his 1000 mile walk from Indiana and arrived in Cedar Key in October 1867. While recovering from a bout with malaria in Cedar Key, Muir first expressed his belief that "Nature is valuable for its own sake, not only because it is useful for man". This principle guided Muir throughout his life.
Cedar Key is named state´s Rural Community of the Year! There will be a ceremony on February 3, at 1:30 PM outside of City Hall, followed by homeade desserts social. The Annual STARGAZING PARTY is coming to Cedar Key in February. Our State parks join the celebration with special events. The Florida DEP´s Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve and Cedar Key Museum State Park will host National Stars-n-Parks programs during the month of February, 2010. This is a Public Education Astronomy Program given by volunteers and designed to stimulate interest in astronomy and educate the public about advantages of protecting the night sky from pollution. There will be 2 nights of Public Stargazing and Slide Shows at the CK Museum State Park and (1) night to enjoy a Stargazing Hayride. This is fun and educational for all ages. Please join us!
